"Heeey, you've reached Yang! Well, actually, you didn't reach far enough, 'cause I'm not here right now! But don't yang up! Just leave a message on this baby, and I'll get back to you soon enough, okay?"
... Weiss... you know I'm probably not ever going to be the way I was, right?
[ It's the one thing she's sure of. She can't ever be her old self again, because her old self hadn't ever gone through so much. And her old self had been overconfident. ]
[ Well. She'd wondered, earlier, why Jaune had been so... bad at things, why he'd been panicking about landing in the forest in their very first test. But he'd also shown leadership that day and had only been continuously improving with his team, so she hadn't given it much thought after that. Jaune at Beacon... was where he belonged, and JNPR wouldn't have been the same without him.
... JNPR wouldn't be the same without Pyrrha, either, and her hand clutches tightly at her blanket. ]
I'm not a hero at all. Ruby was the one who did... so much more. The world thinks I'm a danger, and even when I tried, I couldn't--
[ She couldn't. She'd been taken out before she'd managed to land a single hit. ]
Heh. You know, there was a time when you probably would have loved to be thought of as dangerous. I mean, who else could make an entire club of thugs quake in their leather shoes than the fearsome Yang Xiao Long? Yeah, I heard about that.
[ All jokes aside... Jaune glances back at the door real quickly, to check if Ruby might be listening in. When he determines that the coast is clear, he drops the jovial tone once more. ]
Maybe we just gotta work on your multitasking. [it's fairly lighthearted teasing, enough to try and convey that he's letting the harsher topics go for the time being. he said what he needed to say, and that's all he can do for the time being aside from...
[ That's... probably what she needs right now. To be knocked out of her funk, yes, but also to realize that she still has support. And even if it's just Yuri making her food and being a bro...
[ Because if there's one thing Ruby and Jaune do share, it's a leader's burden of responsibility. ]
Ruby did a lot of things, but... she couldn't save the one person she promised she would. She probably thinks the whole incident could've been prevented had she realized what was going on sooner. Even Penny...
[she's eating it, which is a good enough outcome considering he's done everything else he can.]
Not gonna sit here and stay in your hair all day unless you want me to. [he'll eventually break the silence with that, but he's also sure she's probably sick of seeing his face after all that.]
Either way, I think she was carrying a lot of weight for a one-man team for a while. [ At least Weiss is here now, but... ] She needs her sister. Soo... when you feel like you've had enough rest, and you're still wondering what to do next? Maybe start there.
Of course, it's not like I'm not telling you anything you don't already know, heh. You've always been so strong, Yang, and I'm not talking muscles or anything! And me, I'm not even related to you, but... I-I dunno, I've thought of you and Ruby as family ever since we got here. That's... that's weird, right? It probably is. Sorry.
... I'd include Weiss in this, but, I kinda tried to ask her out and it would just... make this weird sentiment even weirder than it is-- oh man, why aren't you stopping me from talking already? Just keep digging, Jaune...
... Because it's you. [ And she's missed it. Jaune, too... well, he's right. She'd consider him as an awkward, gangly brother after everything they've been through, and his nervous rambling does inexplicably make her feel slightly better. ]
[ Not that he talks about this a lot, but he misses his real sisters, too, and having Ruby and Yang here reminds him of his real family back home. The girls are lucky that they still have each other here, but Jaune certainly doesn't have to remind them of that.
Jaune seems reluctant about something, but ultimately decides to go through with it (and because he mentions it every time in the heart meme) and leans towards Yang, giving her the shortest, most awkward hug in the world before pulling back again. He wanted to give her one ever since he walked in, but hearing her accept him just made him get lost in the moment for a second. ]
--llllet's never do that again. Or mention it. So awks...
[ There's no smile. But she's also not rolling her eyes or staring at the wall or telling him to get the hell out or bawling, so really, it's a lot better than it could be. It's some manner of progress, anyway. ]
