"Heeey, you've reached Yang! Well, actually, you didn't reach far enough, 'cause I'm not here right now! But don't yang up! Just leave a message on this baby, and I'll get back to you soon enough, okay?"
[the lack of teasing is worrisome considering how hard she'd gotten him to blush last time. one of the reasons he had trouble placing the voice was because it sounded so much more lively before. flynn frowns lightly.]
You'd sounded familiar to me, as well. [he pauses] If I may ask, though, is everything all right?
[lacking an arm doesn't mean much to someone who didn't actively see her prior to this with two. this means flynn won't jump the gun about assuming it's part of the reason why she's so broody. some people only have one arm and all.]
It's been awhile since everything was "all right". [ That she'll admit. Yes, she knows she doesn't sound as chipper, as playful. Most days, she wonders if she'll ever sound like that again. But how does someone bounce back from everything when everything had all gone wrong at once? ]
[he gives a sympathetic frown. whatever happened really must've been bad.]
I'm sorry to hear that.
[flynn won't force clarification. it isn't his place to pry. he won't say that everything'll be all right, either. that doesn't really mean much when things get super bad. what he will do, however, is offer up yang some company while their pooches play. at that thought, he turns his attention toward the dogs still having fun with the other.]
It always seems like when one thing happens, good or bad, everything else does all at once, too.
[ "Bad" is perhaps an understatement, and maybe Ruby can tell him one day, but it's all something Yang both hates to dwell on and can't help but dwell on. It's a terrible place to be, honestly. ]
I could do with some 'good'. But I don't really think this place knows how to do that.
[She knew this would happen. She's so horrible at things like this. Yang's really hurt and she can't do anything about it to make it any easier for her. Maybe she's just making this worse.]
[ceres doesn't seem the sort that knows what the word good means. thankfully, ceres isn't the only thing here. after a beat, flynn turns toward yang and smiles lightly.]
But your friends here might be able to offer some good in its place.
[bad, undeserving people don't have friends and family who care. flynn's tried to drill this into someone's head before but maybe yang will be more receptive.]
Having individuals who willingly stand by your side and patiently wait for you to realize that is not something the undeserving possess.
[as if right on cue, repede gives a bark while strolling on over. someone approves of having a fellow canine coming along for the jog! flynn smiles down at him.]
Repede seems to like the idea of having Zwei come with, as well.
[Edgeworth was planning on paying Yang a visit today, but he certainly wasn't planning for his dog to be first. Pess had run off, and it doesn't take long for him to find Yang and place his head right on her lap as if begging for a good petting or even a scratch.
Pess says hello, please say hello to him too. His tail is wagging and he's panting like...well, he definitely did run full tilt toward her after catching her scent.]
... Hey, Pess. [ Sure, rubbing his ears isn't very complicated to do with one hand. Even though she still doesn't look very exuberant, but hey. It's something? ]
[Pess senses that Yang's mood is not what it used to be when they first met. Nonetheless, the dog relaxes in her company and lets her rub his ears. What a quiet, well-behaved dog this is.
He'll try to lick her hand and show signs of wanting to jump up and lie right in her lap. Pess doesn't care that she only has one hand to pet him with, it's the quality of the petting that counts.
...and he also doesn't seem to care that he lost his owner. Or, he probably knows Edgeworth will find him real soon. Like in the next tag.]
... [ dog, you are much bigger than Zwei, please be gentle. She'll let him, of course, if he ends up sprawled across her lap, because dogs are hard tto resist. ]
[Pess attempts to get onto Yang's lap, but so far, his efforts are proving to be futile. It's at this crucial juncture that Edgeworth finally manages to catch up, panting a little.
It's still startling to see Yang with only one arm, but today he's able to keep that inside and remain as calm as one can after finding one's wayward pet.]
There you are, Pess.
[He sighs, pausing for a moment. It looks like he had a bit of a run around the apartments looking for his dog. Then he clears his throat.]
Hello, Yang. I apologize; it looks like he was that excited to see you.
[That greeting was already a large improvement from the last time they spoke. He manages to smile, a little. But it's not a smirk, and it's a calm little smile.
Pess perks up and clambers off Yang to return to Edgeworth. Despite being a rogue of a border collie, he still scores a little pat on the head. Ugh, Edgeworth can't stay mad at his dog for long.]
